CNI Re-commits in being
United in Witness and Service
As
the Church of North India celebrated its 36 years of formation, the
different Dioceses, congregations, institutions and organizations of
CNI celebrated with vigour the essence of CNI, of being in unity as
a form of expression and as an act both in witness and service.
Celebrating this Unity which took place
on 29th November 1970 at All Saints Cathedral, Nagpur, a
Eucharist Service was held at the Synod headquarters of Church of
North India in New Delhi on 29th November 2006 where the
staffs and ecumenical friends from other Churches and organizations
partook in the bread and wine symbolizing the body and blood of
Jesus Christ which was broken and shed for the unity and integration
of the whole creation. The Rev. Dr. Enos Das Pradhan, General
Secretary, CNI spoke of the mission journey of CNI in worshipping
God and establishing shalom through its continuous engagement of
restoring justice and dignity of God’s creation and by working
towards being a transformed and transforming community. He concluded
by wishing and challenging that, “May the 36th year of
our united journey in this land be always a reminder to us that our
God is trustworthy and may we be united to inspire and challenge
others to be in unison.” The Rt. Rev. Karam Masih, Bishop of the
Diocese of Delhi celebrated the Eucharist along with Rev. Dr.
Pradhan while the message was brought by Ms. Margaret Sumadh, Asia
Secretary in United Church of Canada. In her message, Margaret spoke
of the beauty of unity in diversity, the retaining of the essence of
the bodies that come together yet preserving finer qualities of each
of these bodies. Recognizing and valuing diversity rather than
differences is vital. She reiterated that maintaining the unity is
more crucial than getting the churches united.
