Felicitation to Smt. Pratibha Patil First
Woman President of
India
The
Executive Committee of the Synod of the
Church
of
North India
received the news of resounding victory of Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh
Patil to the highest and august office of the President of India.
By becoming the first woman President of the largest democracy in
the world she has created history. Her
victory for this supreme and coveted position is a salutation to the
Indian women and a moment of great pride for our country especially on
its 60th year of independence.
The
CNI
Executive Committee in its 80th Meeting expressed confidence,
that in a patriarchal society like
India
where women have long been underestimated and ignored she will
strengthen every mother, sister and daughter who is the backbone of our
society. Behind the very traditional and conservative Indian woman we
see great fervor, zest and dreams in her for our country.
She has broken the 6 decades of male monopoly over presidency and
as Mrs. Sonia Gandhi put it, it is a special moment for us women
as also for men that a woman has become the President first time
after independence.
The
Executive Committee further noted that her view on purdah system is
surely an encouragement for those women in society who are still facing
the brunt of this social evil even in the 21st century and we
shall all stand in solidarity with her infighting against the atrocities
on women in
India
. The
Church
of
North India
sees a new era when more women will be socially and economically
empowered and hoped that her wealth of knowledge will take
India
to greater heights.
The
Executive Committee further expressed their hope that all kinds of
atrocities, terrorism and insecurity in this country will soon be
aborted and that she will not only lead this country as the head but
also continue to build better relations with other countries.
As a minority in the country the Church of North India, a united
and uniting Church of this great nation look forward to full support as
we continue to work towards nation building, giving education and
setting up health centers which has always been our contribution to the
society, we are confident that under her leadership the decisions taken
by the government will not have any religious or regional color and that
the government will not work against the freedom of the religion
guaranteed by the Constitution of India
