Summer Camp 2010: Women’s Concern for Children

Year 2010 in the history of the Diocesan Women's Fellowship for Christian Service under Diocese of Durgapur converted the old stage of human progress into a new scenario of justified nomenclature by organizing Summer Camp 2010 from May 19-22, 2010 at St. Michael's School, Durgapur. Teens and children from the various projects and community study centre situated at Durgapur, Asansol, Bankura and Purulia have enjoyed a rich and rewarding four days of fellowship, worship, activities, sports and music, and several of them have committed to attend such camps again and again.

The camp officially started on 19th May 2010 by Mrs. Rita Dutta, President of the DWFCS, Diocese of Durgapur by lighting of the lamp. The inauguration service was conducted at St. Michael's School auditorium specially marked by the presence of Ms. Sushma Ramswami, Communication Secretary, C.N.I. Synod, the office bearers and committee members of the DWFCS wing and all other dignitaries of the Diocese of Durgapur. The opening dance was performed by the girls of Prochesta Asansol. "What are our gifts was the theme of these years Summer Camp. In this four days programmed the teachers of the camp gave stress on the personal upliftment of the students. They wanted to know the ability of the particular child and to what extend the children can mould themselves to know their hidden qualities. There were 10 groups in the camp divided on the basis of age and each groups had their own task which was under the able guidance of the experienced teachers who not only studied the inner values of each child but also gave emphasis on what they can do. Each class was specified into different field like art and craft, cooking, gymnastic, dance etc. The children actively participated in the group activity and they were very happy to learn various things standing in one platform. The youth team from Chapel Hill University also helped them in their activities. A documentary movie has been shot this summer camp specially focusing on the life of the four girls who have successfully given their class-X examination. The children from the four centers rocked the stage in the school auditorium showing their talents and tuning the crowd to dance in their tone at the cultural night. The children of the camp marched in the heart of Durgapur in the form of rally showing the society their hidden talents and proclaiming that they are no more from the backward class.
