Walk for Peace, Love and Hope

A "Walk for peace, love and hope" was organized by the St. Thomas' Church School, Howrah as part of its Sesqui Centennial Celebrations. Mr. Vinod A. K. Lall, Principal of the school, Rev. P. Canning, Presbyter-in-Charge of St. Thomas' Church, along with the clergy, alumni, staff, students and well wishers of the school took part in this peace procession.

Placards and banners proclaiming empowerment through education, compassion, universal peace, love and empowerment of the girl child were boldly displayed by the students during this march. The event was well covered by both the print and the electronic media of Kolkata.

Founded in 1860 by Rev. Dr. William Spencer, a hundred and fifty years after its establishment, the school still continues to be a leader in the field of education. Initially it was established to provide education to the underprivileged children of the locality. Today the school though has grown leaps and bounds yet it has not forgotten its ministry towards the deprived children of our society. Apart from the regular paying students, the school offers concessions to many of its students coming from a poor economic background. Apart from this St. Thomas' has also planned to open an evening school for the children of the poor communities of the area education here will be free of cost, for which the teachers of the school have selflessly volunteered their services.

The school has lived through the two World Wars and the Partition. It has weathered every storm and has only grown from strength to strength. Today it continues to be a beacon, leading the way, empowering the youth and setting benchmarks.

As the school motto says "Let us continue to press towards the mark I", so let us come in solidarity as members of the Christian community as brothers and sisters of different faiths and creeds to strengthen a noble and mighty cause such as this.
