Chattisgarh Diocese Formed: CNI now has 27 Dioceses


As per the mandate of 13th Ordinary Synod of the Church of North India and subsequent meeting of the Synod Executive Committee a task group comprising of The Rt. Rev. P.K. Samantaroy, Convener, Mr. Prem Masih and Col. (Retd) S. P. Khalko was formed.


The task group visited Raipur to obtain information also to confirm factual position and facts. After thorough study the task group presented a detailed report to the 84th meeting of the Synod Executive Committee. The report enumerated that the Chhatisgarh area fulfils all the criteria/guidelines for the bifurcation of Jabalpur Diocese.
The 84th meeting of the Executive Committee formed an Advisory Committee comprising of The Rev. Dr. Enos Das Pradhan, Mr. Prem Masih and Adv. B. D. Das to meet up with the newly formed Adhoc Committee of Chattisgarh Diocese.


The first Adhoc Committee meeting along with the members of the CNI Advisory Committee was held on February 1, 2010 at St. Mathews Church, Raipur. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Samson Das, Bishop, Diocese of Cuttack, and Moderators Commissary for the Diocese of Chattisgarh was also present at the meeting. Bishop Samson Das formally inaugurated the Diocesan Office. The renovation of the Bishops house has started. The members discussed about the date of inauguration of the Diocese of Chattisgarh sometime in April as would be decided by the Moderator Church of North India


With the formation of Chattisgarh Diocese, the Church of North India now has 27 Dioceses.
