CNI Youth at NEYA 2010

Thirty young people from different Dioceses of the Church of North India participated in the National Ecumenical Youth Assembly (NEYA) 2010 organized by the Commission on Youth of the National Council of Churches in India at St. Thomas School, Kolkata from 6th to 10th January 2010 around 700 young people gathered from all of the Christian Denominations and Religious Traditions of India and also from the South Asian Countries.

The National Ecumenical Youth Assembly was based on the theme “Come, Let’s Be Friends” and mainly focused on the following topics: -

1. Friendship with Nature.
2. Friendship with God.
3. Friendship with Humanity.

There were wonderful sessions on how friendship can be bridged between various facets like God, humanity, environment nature. The workshops gave a practical approach to all the topics to be studied which had an important role to play in the society today.

The CNI delegation was headed by the Mr. Shitij Cyril Jacob, SYFC President, Mr. Nikhil Arsud, SYFC Secretary and Mr. Pradip Bansrior, Youth Co-ordinator. The delegation had a formal meeting to know each other and to participate as one unit. The CNI delegation even participated in the cultural programme. The most distinct feature was that the CNI delegation did not limit itself to its 30 people; we lived up to the theme and made friends from across states and borders. The cultural programme saw the blend of fun and frolic with the traditional touch with performances from famous personalities like Vijay Benedict, Usha Uthup and Shane Hyrapiet.

NEYA 2010 was a unified platform to meet, interact and to know people from different denomination, cultures and race, who together walked the path for peace in the rally which had the theme “YOUTH FOR PEACE”. Looking back we would like to conclude that the delegation of CNI was greatly benefited as for many it was the first programme and would look forward to many such opportunities. We would like to thank the NCCI and the CNI for giving us the opportunity to participate.
