Alumni Association Inauguration

In December 2008 Bishop’s College completed 188 years of its existence. The alumni of the college have served the Church in India and abroad in various capacities and at various levels. Today many Bishops, Presbyters, Theological Educators, those working in Ecumenical Organizations and others are alumni of the college. Yet the college, until date, did not have an alumni association. Time and again our students, both past and present, the faculty and the Board of Management have expressed the desire for such an association. Finally this long felt desire came to its fruition on the 29th of April 2009.

Using the occasion of the rededication of the College Chapel, for which several alumni of the college had gathered, the college had its first alumni association meeting. Presided over by the Most Rev. Purely Lyngdoh, Moderator of the CNI, the meeting had 28 alumni present. The meeting began with a word of welcome by the Principal, Rev. Dr Sunil Caleb.

The alumni then discussed the Plan of Action for the Alumni Association and then approved the document with some minor changes. The Most Rev. Purely Lyngdoh then announced the alumni association as inaugurated. The alumni decided to elect a coordinating committee who would draft a constitution for the Alumni Association. The constitution would then have to be passed by the Board of Management and the Society of Bishop’s College.

Former students of Bishop’s College are informed that the alumni association of the college is now inaugurated and that they should contact Mr. Philip Vinod Peacock, Alumni Association Coordinator, for further details regarding membership. They can write to him at the Bishop’s College Address or by email to ppeacock@vsnl.net
