The story of Sulochana Mahato
Six year old and she is already encouraging her fellow classmates to study harder and even helps them sometimes when they get stuck in their studies. But this is an entire different Sulochana Mahato who came to the centre a year and half ago. One normally does not expect children to be clean, behaved and study prone when living in a typical Indian slum in a mud house with tiled roof. But, Sulochana has proved everything wrong in this past one and a half year. She has not only changed in her behavior, her cleanliness but has also become education, or better study prone, and this year she has stood second in her entire class which consists of some seventy five children. She has obtained 368 marks out of a total of 400 marks. Although being the daughter of a driver, she has a knack to study and to continue. Her teachers at the Durgapur Child Study and Development Centre were delighted when she proudly produced her report card on which it was written in bold letters ‘POSITION: Second’.
Seeing these changes and improvements in the children of the Centre one can easily picture the endeavors the teachers and volunteers put in after each individual child towards their educational improvements and above all their holistic development. The teachers of the Durgapur Child Study and Development Centre have added another feather in their cap for setting up yet another milestone in the history of the centre and we all believe this is just the beginning and many more milestones are yet to be set up.
