His Holiness Dalai Lama Visits Cathedral Church of Redemption
His Holiness The Dalai Lama recently visited the Cathedral Church of Redemption, New Delhi, under the Diocese of Delhi, Church of North India.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited various religious sites here in the Indian capital and prayed with members from other religious faiths on the 50th anniversary of his setting foot on the Indian soil which was commemorated by the exile Tibetan government as “thank you India day”.
The 73 year old Tibetan leader said “promotion of religious harmony among various faiths is one of his three commitments of life.”
While speaking at the service, the Dalai Lama said, “We have learnt a lot from the contribution of the Christians in Education. Christians institutions have contributed a lot in education us Tibetans. Even though monks like to live in isolation, we have developed exchange programmes. Some of our monks are also sent to Christian seminaries in Europe.”
The Dalai Lama was welcomed by the children of St. Thomas School, Mandir Marg, New Delhi. The children led him with singing and dancing to the church.
The Dalai Lama participated in the short and solemn service, thanking God for his blessings on the people of Tibet and for peace the world. The Rt. Revd. Sunil Singh, Bishop, Diocese of Delhi, presented a memento and felicitated the religious leader with a shawl. The service was conducted by The Revd. S. Dennis Lall, Presbyter in charge, The Cathedral Church of the Redemption, along with The Revd. Dr. Christopher Raj, Presbyter, The Cathedral Church of the Redemption, The Revd. Dn. W. J. Samuel and the Revd. Deacon C. Rajkumar.
Present on the occasion were the diocesan office bearers, members of the Cathedral family and host of friends and members of ecumenical communities.
