News of Synod:

Pokhili Munda has a reason to smile!

Rangajan a Gram Panchayat in Assam state has about 52% Muslim, 25%Adivasi, 10%Nepali, 8%Bengali and 5%others where the majorities are always taking advantage of innocents tribal.

Mrs. Pokhili Munda a poor widow with 3 young children lives in a village called Siloni. She lost her husband to TB in 2002 at the age of 35 & since then has been taking care of her family by cultivating the land left by her husband. Since 2006, Md. Abbas Ali from another village is trying to encroach & claim her land by submitting fake and manipulated document. He has been harassing her since then. She filed an application to the Circle Office (case no 3/05/06) dated 05/06/06 who submitted a report to Deputy Commissioner of the Sonitpur District but nothing happened.

After many years of fighting in vain, she approached CE and Secretary of PNJSS in May’2008, who took her case and collected all the necessary information and actual data.

Meanwhile on 9th Jun’08 Md. Abbas Ali tried again to encroach & even assaulted Pokhili on being stopped. Pokhili & CE along with PNJSS filed an FIR at Charduar Police Out Post on 10th Jun’08. No action was taken & so the same matter was again reported to the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur on 14th Jun’08.

When, even after a week DC, Sonitpur failed to take any action, the PNJSS & CE went to the Commissioner of North Assam Division, Tezpur on 21st July 2008. He studied the matter seriously & immediately drafted a letter to DC, Sonitpur.

This action brought back the confidence in Pokhili Munda of seeing the land matter settled soon. She is grateful to the Commissioner, CE & PNJSS.
