Dear Readers,

Greetings to you from the Synod of the Church of North India.

You must be aware of the situation in Kandhamal, Orissa which comes under our Diocese of Phulbani.  The tribal district hit the headlines of all national and international media in December 2007 when the Hindu fundamentalists attacked and burnt churches on the eve of Christmas leaving many people half-dead and homeless who battled the cold and starvation hiding in forest.  Now after, eight months, the violence has erupted again burning churches, houses and even people to death.  In this issue of CNI News we are updating you with the happenings and request you for your solidarity and prayer.

Today being the Teachers' Day, I would like to greet all the teachers in the name of Christ, the Greatest Teacher, whose words of wisdom and works were always going hand in hand.  May the Greatest Teacher bless the teachers of our time to be genuine role models for their pupils.
