The
Rt. Rev. Ashok Biswas has been installed as the 19th Bishop
of the Diocese of Kolkata, Church of North India, on 3rd
June 2008 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Kolkata by the Rt. Rev. PSP Raju,
the outgoing Bishop of the Diocese. Earlier Bishop Biswas was
consecrated by the Most Rev. Joel V. Mal, Moderator of the Church of
North India. The
ceremonial services were attended by many dignitaries from the Church
of North India Synod including Bishop Purely Lyngdoh, Rev. Dr. Enos
Das Pradhan and some of its Diocesan Bishops along with more than
thousand members of the Diocese and the representatives of other churches
including the Roman Catholics. Bishop Biswas, after completing B. D. from Bishop’s College, in 1985 joined the Diocese of Kolkata as a Deacon. Then he was ordained as a presbyter on 13th February 1986 and served different congregations within the Diocese. The 57 years old, local born, dawned the mantled of Episcopacy in presence of many former Bishops, colleagues and well-wishers chose celibacy to be married to God and His Church. |
