Youth leadership Development Programme at Cuttack

The diocese of Cuttack in Orissa organized the follow up of the Certificate Course on Youth Leadership Development programme at Buckley Chapel, Cuttack from 26th to 28th March 2008 to conceptually and systematically train its young people for leadership.  The three days of training programme attended by 35 youth leaders from different pastorates was intended to influence and to call upon the youths to shoulder the responsibility of their local churches.  Earlier three youth from the Diocese had been trained by the CNI Synod at Nagpur for fifteen days who went back and motivated the Diocesan leadership to organize the similar kind of programmes so that more youth could be trained.

As the course content developed and manual prepared, the sessions were based on understanding the system and the issues they will have to deal with as Christian leaders.  Mr. Kasta Dip, Coordinator, Youth Concerns (CNI) facilitated the sessions on Understanding Self, Group Dynamics, Leadership Development and Communication Skills.  Others who facilitated different others sessions and Bible studies were Mr. Suseer Biswas, Mr. Stephenson Das, Mr. Samuel Somalingam and Rev. Ajay Kumar Patro.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Samson Das, Diocesan Bishop, inaugurating the programme expressed his frustration and spelt out how the church in Orissa, instead of becoming a worship place, has become a secure place for reckless leaders with vested interests.  He challenged the delegates participated in the programme from different pastorates to be a leader like Jesus who was more like a reformer and revolutionist.  He was quoting the incident in the Bible where Jesus set the doves free and turned up the tables of money exchanges in the temple.  The participants were encouraged by the good-wishing presence of some local pastors like Rev. Susanta Nayak, Rev. Lohar and Mr. B. D. Das.

After the programme, Bishop Das commissioned the participants and sent them off with blessings and good wishes as they planned to organize the same programme at their local churches and pastorates.  Mr. Ganjan Sabar organized the whole programme skillfully.
