General Secretary Spends Time with the Nicobarese Youth

After the devastating tsunami on 26th December 2004 thousands of people lost their lives and homes living behind some remnants.  The beauty of Car Nicobar which was earlier intriguing is just a dream too hard to be realized.  Fallen trees and dilapidated buildings now remake the scenic beauty of the islands.  The Church of North India was one of the first organizations to plunge into the relief and rehabilitation of those who survived the lethal conspiracy of the nature.  With lots of things happening as part of our interventions, the Church of North India brought 15 young people from different villages of Car Nicobar to experience the life in mainland and undertake technical and industrial skills development training at Church of North India – Social Service Institute, Nagpur.  The boys have been in Nagpur for the last six months.  The Programme Office of CNI Synod is taking care of their food, accommodation, course fees and some monthly living allowances.

It was a memorable moment for the Nicobare boys when the General Secretary of the Church of North India, Rev. Dr. Enos Das Pradhan called on them on 22nd January 2008 to take stock of their living and training situation in Nagpur.  Rev. Pradhan conversed with the boys to find out their field of training and encouraged them to complete the course with hard work and diligence so that when they go back to Car Nicobar they can be self-reliant and through their services the whole island will be technically and professionally benefited.  The boys are in four different trades of industrial skills development training such as Refrigeration, Electricals, Welding, Motor Mechanic.
